Checklist of Caddisflies (Insecta, Trichoptera) from Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Calor,Adolfo R.; Quinteiro,Fabio B..
ABSTRACT Trichoptera presents about 15,000 species described globally, of which 2,562 are recorded in the Neotropics and 642 in Brazil, distributed in 70 genera and 16 families. In Brazil, knowledge of the distribution and species richness of Trichoptera is incipient and heterogeneous, especially in some states such as Mato Grosso do Sul. In this work, we present an updated checklist of caddisflies for Mato Grosso do Sul state, representing nine families, 24 genera, and 16 species, four of them are new species records. Additionally, a new record of species for the Brazilian country is presented.

CHECKLIST OF PLANKTONIC COPEPODA FROM A COLOMBIAN COASTAL LAGOON WITH RECORD OF HALICYCLOPS EXIGUUS KIEFER Boletín de Investigaciones
Fuentes-Reinés,Juan M; Suárez-Morales,Eduardo.
Sixteen species of planktonic copepods are reported from Laguna de Navío Quebrado, La Guajira, Colombia. Zooplankton samples were collected from the littoral zone with vegetation (macrophytes and mangroves) and from open water related to an oyster bank. Most of these species were recorded in the macrophytes-related area. One of them: Halicyclops exiguus Kiefer, 1934 is new to the Colombian copepod fauna; comparative morphological comments and illustrations of this species are also provided. The general composition of the local copepod community, including marine, estuarine and freshwater forms is representative of the wide salinity gradient (0-28) found in the surveyed area. This is the first report on the planktonic copepod fauna in this hydrological...

Cod (Gadus morhua) Migrations in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Areas South of Newfoundland ArchiMer
Moguedet, Philippe.
During the years 1975, 1976, 1980 and 1982 cod (Gadus morhua) tagging experiments were conducted, inside the Gulf of St. Lawrence and outside in areas south of Newfoundland, by French scientists from IFREMER St. Pierre and Miquelon laboratory, in order to study the population distribution and migration and to complement the experiments carried out by Canadian scientists. The analysis from all recoveries and results from these experiments are presented here. The relevance is that the comparison with the Canadian results would lead to a better understanding of the cod stock exchanges in the area. The migratory patterns were believed to be mainly a response to seasonal environmental condition changes. In winter the cod were noted to migrate from the central...

Cold-water coral habitats in submarine canyons of the Bay of Biscay ArchiMer
Van Den Beld, Inge; Bourillet, Jean-francois; Arnaud-haond, Sophie; De Chambure, Laurent; Davies, Jaime S; Guillaumont, Brigitte; Olu, Karine; Menot, Lenaick.
The topographical and hydrological complexity of submarine canyons, coupled with high substratum heterogeneity, make them ideal environments for cold-water coral (CWC) habitats. These habitats, including reefs, are thought to provide important functions for many organisms. The canyons incising the continental slope of the Bay of Biscay have distinct morphological differences from the north to the south. CWCs have been reported from this basin in the late 19th century; however, little is known about their present-day distribution, diversity and environmental drivers in the canyons. In this study, the characteristics and distribution of CWC habitats in the submarine canyons of the Bay of Biscay are investigated. Twenty-four canyons and three locations...

Comparación de la abundancia y distribución de algunas características de las esponjas del género Ircinia (Porifera: Demospongiae) en dos localidades contrastantes dell área de Santa Marta, Caribe colombiano OceanDocs
Parra-Velandia, F.J.; Zea, S..
In tropical littoral environments, suspended organic matter favors the presence of sessile filter feeder organisms such as sponges, over those predominantly phototrophic such as algae and corals. In the Santa Marta area in the Colombian Caribbean, productivity is enhanced by alternating pulses of coastal upwelling and continental runoff, resulting in an important diversity and abundance of sponges. Species of the genus Ircinia ( I. campana, I. felix and I.strobilina) are conspicuous and abundant in the rocky and reef biotopes of the area. To establish the influence of predominant environmental conditions on the distribution of these three species, their density, size and microhabitat preference, their form and color, the occurrence of predation signs, the...
